Little domestic dreams

I sometimes find myself daydreaming of the simple things we will have someday.

An automatic ice cube maker. I go through a lot of ice.
A full sized ironing board. Not that I ever iron clothes, but it would be nice for sewing and craft projects.
A clothesline. I can't wait to see our diapers drying in the summer sun!
Enough bookshelves. So the books wouldn't be piling up elsewhere.

And then I remember that in many ways, "someday" has already arrived. We have a dishwasher! We have matching furniture! And every kitchen appliance we will ever need! And most importantly in my opinion, a washer and dryer inside our apartment! And most importantly in my husband's opinion, a dog!

So while I may be holding out for that perfect dream house on a couple acres with a wraparound porch and a laundry list of other features, right now I'm also quite content in our little rented condo.

What are the simple home pleasures you daydream of? What are the favorite ones you already have and enjoy?

  1. I'm very thankful we have our own washer and dryer and dishwasher. And I use the microwave and toaster oven daily.

I really wish we had a yard the kids could play in. I think for me, the simple home pleasures mostly fall under the category of space. Baby 4 is on the way and space is just becoming more and more valuable.

  2. I was just thinking that I need a full size ironing board, too! I rarely use it, but today I have a bunch of stuff to iron, and I was thinking that I was probably grown up enough to get a real ironing board. :)

  3. Your dream house = my dream house! :) I would love to have wide, open space for my kids to run around and explore and have fun.

In the house we own in Georgia, we have a fairly new, nice refrigerator with an ice maker... which we could never use because there was no water line connected. In our townhome here on base, the refrigerator is much older... but it has a working ice maker! My silly husband -who has often teased me for "needing" lots of ice in my drinks- now adds a ton of it to his own beverages, simply because it's available! ;) It's the little things, isn't it?

  4. i would love a clothes line... and nothing prevents me from having one except i haven't strung it! must get on that...

for the first 5 years of marriage, our washer and dryer was in the building, but not in our apartment. now we live in mil housing and have it in my house.

i can never go back :-p

  5. A shark steam mop....I yearn, I pine. I have a dog with black fur. :(

Also, we do not have a dishwasher. When we bought the house we weren't pregnant yet, so I didn't think washing dishes would be so bad. However, now I am asking for a dishwasher for my birthday in Feb. Is that how you know you're a boring grownup? :)

I also recently just got a food processor from my MIL, and its amazing. I love it.

  6. Would really like a clothes line tucked in the corner of my large yard behind my nice house with a porch on which exists a nice porch swing...someday

Today I'm enjoying my washer/dryer, and food processor and as I write on my laptop in my sofa, giving thanks wireless modem.

  7. I would love an automatic ice cube maker... but I would settle for a chest freezer to put in our garage so I could stock up on ice!

My mom & I were just talking about things I want to do around our house... she says there's always a list & you'll just keep ticking things off it and adding more things to it!

  8. I WANT a vacuum cleaner that actually vacuums, instead of spitting everything back out a few feet away. But I know that just a few years ago, I would have been insanely happy with all the things I have now!

  9. This question is easy to answer. I daydream of a washer and dryer - enough of the combo one in Europe already! It takes 4 hours for half a load (the capacity is much smaller)

I also daydream of a blender. I have a lot of milk, yogurt and fruit smoothies at home. Only problem - I don't have enough storage space to keep any frozen fruit anyway or I would buy one to use for the next three months
