7 Quick Takes (35) - Does anyone actually...

Today's quick takes are a compilation of things I've been wondering for a while now. Does anyone really do any of the following things? I'm seriously curious.

1
Does anyone actually cook a frozen pizza directly on the oven rack? The only two times I've tried this, the pizza got completely cooked onto the rack and it was a disaster. Ever since then, every time I cook a pizza (using a pan) and the directions say to put directly on rack, I get confused. Did I do something majorly wrong? Is there some trick to this? Can a pizza actually be cooked on the rack without being ruined?

2
Does anyone actually have a toilet seat cover that fits? Seriously, I've never had one that actually fit the lid, and now I think about it, I don't think my mother has either. I'm about to do away with these things altogether.

3
Does anyone actually get a linea nigra during pregnancy? I keep reading about this dark line that might appear south of my belly button, but I had never heard of this before reading the gazillion baby books that I've gone through. Come to think of it, this is just one of many things that I'd never heard of pre-pregnancy. I'm sure I'll continue to learn more.

4
Does anyone actually believe Obama is the anti-Christ? Sarah pointed out a great article last week about how, well, foolish that is. People are free to hate Obama, but let's not get all ridiculous about it. Seriously, if you didn't read it last week, I do encourage you to check it out now: Wishing Grey Was Black Ruins Your Spiritual Health and Makes You Stupid.

5
Does anyone actually replace their baking soda every 30 days? It tells you on the side you need to, but I never do. In fact, I don't think I've changed it since we've gotten married, almost two years ago. Things are still cooking fine, as far as I can tell.

6
Does anyone actually pray the rosary every day? I can handle praying every day. I can even see getting to daily mass. But for some reason the thought of praying the rosary every day is quite overwhelming to me. To be honest, I can't even do it once a week at this point. But I know there are people out there who do it. If you're one of them, any words of wisdom or inspiration? Or if you're someone who does a different type of prayer every day, anything to share?

7
Does anyone actually take a bath towel to the swimming pool? I've actually made a friend in my neighborhood and we're going to the pool this afternoon, and I'm so excited! The only thing is, we don't have any beach towels and my husband forbid me to go to the store and spend money on one because (a) we have plenty of bath towels, (b) I inevitably buy more than just the one thing I set out to get, and (c) I need to spend the morning actually getting work done so I can take the afternoon off. And yet, I feel like a 15 year old again, and I'm worried that my new friend won't think I'm cool because I don't have a beach towel. Yes, that is how mature I am. Someone please tell me that people take bath towels to the pool all the time?

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. 1. I HAVE cooked a frozen pizza on the rack before with some success, but I think that was when the oven was brand new, and the racks were still nice and coated with oil. In fact, the installer said to coat them with oil every now and then (like olive oil, I guess) to keep them running smoothly along the edges when you need to move a rack. But...I haven't. And I use a pizza stone now :)

    2. No to the toilet seat cover. I believe these are a myth :)

    3. I had a VERY faint linea nigra with Mia, none that I recognized with Lauren. But I have seen them on other ladies.

    4. I hope not. Jeez.

    5. I think the every 30 days thing, is just for the box you keep in your fridge for odor purposes. But the regular box you use to bake with, doesn't need to be replaced that often.

    6. No. Sigh.

    7. Um, I've NEVER had a bonafide beach towel. Bath towels for us, all the way :) Go with pride!

  2. 1. That's the ONLY way I cook a frozen pizza...it keeps the crust crispy!

    2. We got rid of those long ago...they are a pain!

    3. I didn't, but one of my friends did. It's kind of cool. Actually, she got it with her sons, but not with her daughter. I never got it with my girls and never checked for it with my son!

    4. You know, on occasion, when I have been so utterly sickened by Obama, I have thought it, but never said it out loud. Lately, though, I am more just sad for him because it's clear that he was elected into a position he was no where near ready to take on and has proven inept in quite a few areas. But anyway - no, I don't think he's the Anti-Christ (but I do wish he would NOT get re-elected in 2012)

    5. No

    6. I have before. Back when I was able to get to daily Mass, I would pray it in the car on the way. it was very relaxing on the drive in. Getting a Rosary ring helps to get through the Rosary more regularly, I think.

    7. I have taken a bath towel to the swimming pool. But then...I grew up around the pool (competitive swimmer for 5 of my formative years) and sometimes that's all you got!

    have a great Weekend!

  3. 1. I don't cook frozen pizza at all, but if I did I wouldn't use the rack or a pan. I have a perfectly good pizza stone that I would use instead.

    2. Perhaps if you custom made one, but I've never seen one in stores that would fit a real toilet, and I've never met anyone who would custom make one just to so it would fit.

    3. I had a linea nigra with each pregnancy. It wasn't terribly noticable, but it was there. It faded within the first couple of months after birth.

    4. Yes! There are always people who believe such nonsense. If you look, for every person with any sort of power you will be able to find at least a few people who think that person is the anti-Christ. As for why people think this, but I'm positive there are people who really do believe it.

    5. The 30 day this is just for the box used to prevent a smelly refrigerator. The one for baking doesn't need to be replaced as often. I've used baking soda for a lot of things, but I've never actually used it to keep my refrigerator smelling fresh so I've never had to replace it every 30 days. If I did use it that way, I still wouldn't replace it that often because I know I would forget.

    6. I actually do, but I use a wonderful CD to do so. I usually pray it while driving, doing simple chores (dishes, laundry, etc), or doing repetitive activities (knitting and such).

    7. I've always had beach towels but I've also always lived near the ocean. That being said, I don't see the problem in using whatever towels you have around.

  4. 1. As for the pizza, I do sometimes, but I mostly feel like it makes my oven dirty with all the pieces breaking off the crust so I usually use a pizza stone. I think that doing it directly on the rack creates a crispier crust since the air can get all around it. However, a stone works well like I use or Rachael Ray often puts a cooling rack on a cookie sheet when she is trying to keep things crispy in the oven. So maybe that would work for this too?
    2. I have never had a toilet seat cover nor has my mother so I'm not really a fan and don't know much about these. :)
    3. I actually did get a faint linea negra with my first, but not with my second.
    4. Obama makes me sick, but no I don't think he's the anti christ.
    5. I have prayed the Rosary daily in spurts, but I always get bogged down and quit. I recently read a book called "You can Become a Saint" by Mary Ann Budnik, and it is amazing! It is the best spiritual growth book I have ever read, and she talks about how building up to praying the Rosary daily is the best way. Otherwise it's like running a marathon without training! She suggests starting with one decade a day and working up. :)
    6. I'm impressed that you have one in the fridge. I always buy one for that purpose, but it never makes its way into the fridge!
    7. I don't usually take a bath towel because we do have some beach towels. They are cheap ones from target, and they do the job. But take a bath towel! Your friend will understand. :)

  5. 2) mine fit :-p

    3) YES you do get one. well maybe not everyone, but i got a faint line towards the end and then it took a while to go away.

    5) you might not need to every 30 days but it DOES expire. also baking POWDER expires - i know this from baking with expired BP and wondering what the heck happened! :-p

  6. 2- yes, my grandma does and the pictured one would probably fit. She has a small toilet. I, on the other hand have never bothered to buy one.

7 - yes, I've used bath towels before, no big deal

    ReplyDelete
  7. 1-I cook them on the rack all the time and have never had a problem. Sorry-but I can't give you any tips. I just put it on and take it off.

    2-No. They're stupid.

    3. I don't have one yet.....but i'm only 8 weeks :)

    4. I heard in a homily the first Sunday after election "Obama is neither the Messiah nor the Anti-Christ." I think that sums it up.

    5. I've always thought that it only needed to be replaced if you were leaving it open in your fridge to get rid of the smell, not if you had it tightly closed and were using it for cooking. No idea where that came from-I've just always thought that.

    6. For the last few years I've prayed the rosary every weekday during my half hour communte. It was really hard-but it was pure guilt that kept me going. I got a new job and no commute anymore-I'm nervous.

    7. I have beach towels but my "pool friend" always uses a bath towel. I've never thought any less of her :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yes to 1. We always do it that way. It's not a biggie as long as you clean out your oven every so often. ;)

    No the the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 1. I would be afraid to put my pizza directly on the rack. It might get dirty oven cooties.

    3. Most women I know get this. I am very fair and never have, though.

    4. I don't think Obama is competent enough to be the Antichrist. I mean, he's more bumbling foolish henchman, KWIM?

    7.
Um, what are you SUPPOSED to take to the pool? 3 years ago I got some beach towels for the kids for their Easter baskets, but we have more kids now and not enough! So yeah, we take bath towels. And when we go to the beach we take our super ratty towels. We have class around here.

    ReplyDelete
  10. 2. I say do away with toilet seat cover. I hate touching those things!

    3. I'm almost eight months along, and haven't gotten one yet. Score! The stretch marks, on the other hand, are another story...

    4. I live in the Bible Belt. You hear some pretty strange things down here!

    7. My in-laws always use bath towels. My husband never had a beach towel till I bought him one for our two-year (cotton) anniversary! Don't be self-conscious; they all dry the same!

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1. pizza pan defintely
    2. no toilet seat covers
3.I had one with my first daughter not my second. I thought I later read it could be because you need more vitamins but that's a vague non scientific memory.
    4. I try to not think about Obama much.
    5. I never change my baking soda. I do use it fairly often since I like to use it to clean greasy pans.
6.I try to do a decade at least every day but not a whole rosary.
    7. We use beach towels but that's mostly because I don't want my nicer bath towels ruined/lost.

  12. 1. Pizza Stone all the way. DESPISE oven cleaning, so I wouldn't even try.

    2. No toilet seat covers, that's just something else I would have to wash. :)

3.No line on any of my pregnancies.

    4.Hmm...surely not.

5.No. But if I can't remember the last time I changed it, I better change it!

6.Not catholic. But if I were, probably still a no.

7.My boys have them, they are super hero ones, and if you need to carry Batman for support, you are more than welcome to borrow him!!

    Have fun swimming!!

  13. 1.Always cooked frozen pizza's on the rack, but the oven MUST be completely pre-heated in order for it to work.

    2. I've always thought those covers were kind of gross, you know, germ collecting? Plus even if it did fit my kids would rip it off to pretend it was a hat or something.

    3. Don't think I ever got it.

    4. I have relatives who do.

    5. Nope, never bothered.

    6. Nope. I'm still trying to get back into the habit of praying every day period.

    7. I have never owned a beach towel. So I always bring the bath towels. :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I only put pizza directly on the oven rack and have no intention of repeating it. I prefer fresh anyway though, so it's not much of an option for me anyway.

Regarding the rosary, I've only prayed it daily during Lent. Most of the laypeople I know of who pray it daily do it during some set time such as commuting to work or while exercising. I love the previous advice to shoot for a decade daily.

For me I've had to realize that the rosary just isn't the best prayer for me at this point, so I'm working on increasing Liturgy of the Hours rather than praying the rosary more. Don't stress if it just isn't what works for you at this point!

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1. Yes! It gets extra crispy!
    2. Do people actually use toilet seat covers?!
    3. My sister did. Don't expose the belly to the sun or it won't go away! (allegedly!)
    4. Um, I hope not.
    5. No, but I try to stir it around frequently.
    6. Nope. I did for preparation for a retreat once. We were actually supposed to pray it 4 times a day! I don't think I did that but I did pray it once a day, for about a month.
    7. Yes! And to the beach before! Have no shame.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1. No
    2. I don't use those. I've never missed them.
    3. Obviously, don't have anything to add here. :)
    4. Definitely not!!
    5. Oh, no. That stuff has a much longer shelf life than they say!
    6. I have before, while on my commute.
    7. Done the bath towel more often than the beach towel.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh my gosh, you are KILLING ME! I'm cracking up.

    1. I did it just tonight!
    2. I never owned one, but my mother used to have one that fit! Probably still does.
    3. Yes, I got a DARK linea nigra with both pregnancies. I can send you a photo if you wish.
    4. Not really.
    5. No. But I think the 30 days thing is for the fridge/freezer use. I change it about yearly, maybe 2x a year for baking. But I bake a lot.
    6. I used to up until last week when I quit my job! I did it on my commute like CM said. I would like to get into it again. I've only prayed it 2x in the last week and I do feel a little off without it.
    7. I really hope your friend doesn't care. I would totally just make a joke about it like you did with us!

  18. I'm too tired to answer your wonderings right now (can't sleep. boo.)... buuuuuut you should totally do wondering wednesday posts like me! It's nice to get answers!

    ReplyDelete
  19. No, no, no, no, no, (some part of it almost every day, b/c I have trouble getting to sleep), and no.

    How's that? :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow, I'm with Maggie... too tired to answer it, but you have given me much to ponder, ha ha!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Fun questions!!

Yes, I grew up with frozen pizzas being cooked directly on the oven rack successfully... we usually had Tombstone or Red Baron, if that helps!

On the baking soda, I think that means to change it every 30 days if you are leaving an open box in your fridge. It is supposed to be helpful in some way, but I don't do it. I bake w/ the same box of baking soda until it runs out every few years!

We pray one decade of the rosary every evening as a family... much easier than praying the whole thing especially with little kids! Most weekdays, we pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in the afternoon (me and the kids... I pray, and they are supposed to look at religious books and such, but that doesn't always work out... I just keep trying!).

And I used to take bath towels to our neighborhood pool sometimes, but that is when I was a kid and didn't care. I did recently take one to the indoor pool where I go to swim laps, only because all the beach towels were dirty, and I felt a bit weird because it wasn't as big and didn't cover as much of me... so it was the size, not the lack of colorful beachish stripes, that made me feel funny!

    ReplyDelete
  22. These are too funny!

    1. We have put it on the rack in the past, but now we have a pizza stone, and that makes it crispy without sticking to the rack.

    2. I have never bought one of these.

    3. I have no idea, I hope I don't get it though, haha.

    4. no

    5. no

    6. I have tried to. I usually do about once a week.

    7. I have taken them to the pool/lake before, but I prefer a beach towel since they are usually bigger and more comfy. I wouldn't worry about anyone judging you though.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have no idea about all that other stuff but YES to the line. We call it my "baby line"... It actually starts above my belly button and goes all the way down. It's weird but I don't mind it at all. My husband thinks it's so cool!

    ReplyDelete
  24. 1. Yes, it can be cooked on the rack! We usually buy Digiornos frozen pizzas because they are most filling even though they are generally also more expensive. They cook well directly on the rack. I'm sure thinner pizzas are less successful!

    2. Yes, in my first apartment a toilet seat cover fit. I think they are a pain a pretty unsanitary, though, so I never use them.

    4. Yes, some people in my office believe Obama is the anti-Christ and some others believe he is a Muslim who is covertly trying to ruin America. They actually believe in a lot of conspiracies... it's frightening to see how their mind works, and how much they preach their views to other people. As someone that actually likes the guy, it's rather frustrating to see falsehoods spread. I don't mind if you don't like him. Just don't lie about him.

    5. I know baking soda can go bad or rather, just stop working. I don't replace it that often, though! Actually when I visited my grandad and tried to cook, we found his baking soda was 10 years old! We don't think he'd used it since my grandmother died. :)

    7. I take bath towels to the pool! We just don't have beach towels and can't be bothered to get them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1. I use a cheap pizza pan, I think I bought at Dollar Tree.

    2. I do not own a toilet seat cover, just something else to wash!

    3. Both of my children are adopted, so I cannot comment on this one.

    4. No, however I am pro-life, he is not.

    5. I try to replace my baking stuff during Lent, it follows the Jewish tradition of clearing out the yeast in your house in preparation for Passover, a Spring Cleaning you might say.

    6. My husband does, he is a convert and frankly, a better Catholic than I am. I manage once or twice a week, however my goal is to say the rosary daily.

    7. Take the bath towel, enjoy the pool!

    ReplyDelete
  26. 6. Yes, try every day.

    Build up your muscles...
And force yourself to pray...before your leisure hours...

    Week 1
I love you God - pray 1 Our Father
I love you Mary - pray 1 Hail Mary

    Week 2-3
Apostles Creed, Our Father, 3 Hail Mary's, Glory Be, Fatima prayer

    Week 4
Add 1 Decade...and so on until you pray
    the whole Rosary

Some find it easier to pray while driving to/from work, or while taking a morning/evening walk, and so on...

And some find it easier to break up the decades over the course of the day
