How old are we?

Earlier this week we spent a cozy evening on the sofa, stringing popcorn onto floss to go around our tree and watching a PBS special about "the retirement crisis" and discussing 401ks. You'd think we were 62, not 26!

But I love it nonetheless :)

Oh Christmas Tree

We got our first Christmas tree! He's really big on getting real trees as opposed to fake ones, so we had big plans to go out and chop one down - until we discovered that you have to pay $70+ to do that around here! Yikes! Needless to say, we weren't fans of that. Next we decided to buy a pre-chopped tree from a local open-space organization... but even those were a minimum of $45. Finally, he gave in and we went and picked one up at Lowe's. With a 25% off sale (yay recession?) we got it for only $18. And it's a good looking tree!

The only sad thing about our nice fat tree is that it has only 4 ornaments on it. He insists that it's okay, because then we'll have plenty of space as we get more ornaments over the year, but I think we might need to go buy some cheap balls or something! We did buy a very pretty gold star to put at the top. He had originally found a light-up Santa to top the tree, but I decided it would be sacrilegious to crown our tree with anything but a star or angel!

Welcome to married life!

He said he liked it, but you'll notice that my husband has not posted on this blog yet - despite several conversations where I not-so-subtly hinted "You should write that in the blog!" We'll see if he ever puts his hands on the keyboard :) In the meantime, you can just enjoy bits from me.

He did love the new shower curtain liner, by the way. Once it got on. I meant to have it on when he got home, but I couldn't for the life of me pop open the curtain rings - and I'm a pretty strong woman. But he got the rings to open and the day after his birthday he got to take a shower with a spankin' new liner. Welcome to married life!

That's what we say these days.

He's been sick for several weeks and one day he kept coughing and then spitting, and after he hocked a loogie three times in ten minutes I finally said "Dear, I know you're sick, but..." At which he grinned and said (with a hoarse voice) "Welcome to married life!"

When it's your turn to do the dishes: "Welcome to married life!"

In reference to my period and other gender-specific issues: "Welcome to married life!"

Dealing with your in-laws: "Welcome to married life!" (Though we're very blessed and ours aren't too bad!)

And I have to say, I love married life despite all of this - and probably even more because of it! And at the same time:

Being able to stay in and cuddle with a movie on Friday nights: "Welcome to married life!"

Having sex: "Welcome to married life!" (Hey, we waited long enough!)

Talking about absolutely anything the minute it enters your mind: "Welcome to married life!"

Getting to call him "my husband" (or her "my wife"): "Welcome to married life!"

Having someone who'll get up in the middle of the night to get you cough medicine: "Welcome to married life!"

Being completely consumed with love and knowing you are going to be with this person for the rest of your life: "Welcome to married life!"

Happy Birthday!

It is my husband's birthday today, and I was told on more than one occasion to not spend any money on gifts for him. (He did acquiesce at one point and informed me that he would like a new shower curtain liner, as ours is getting a bit gross.) Despite the difficulty of this, I have embraced the challenge! So this blog is one of his gifts.

My husband can occasionally rant about things, but I rather enjoy it, because he has really good points. I'm usually convinced of whatever he's talking about, and want everyone else to benefit from listening to him, too! (I promise I'm not just a blind adoring wife whose friends should worry about her - I don't always agree with what he says.) We laughed during the election season at how bloggers were suddenly elevated to reporter status - somehow typing their opinions has made people experts! Seriously, I believe it was CNN who was interviewing a person and their title was simply "Blogger." Now, since that husband of mine is brilliant and I think people should listen to him, I am giving all of you that opportunity. Enjoy!

(Okay, in case you were curious, this is not all he's getting. I used some gift cards leftover from our wedding this summer to buy a couple little gifts - that doesn't count as spending money, right? And yes, he does have a new shower curtain liner.)
